Biography

Bridget was born in Marinette, Wisconsin to two loving and caring parents as well as two older siblings. Maggie was the oldest, followed by Brody and Bridget finished off the perfect family dynamic. Brody couldn't quite say Bridget and that's how her nickname of 'Birdie' came to be. She answers almost exclusively to Birdie rather than her full name of Bridget.
When Birdie was ten years old there was a fire in their house. Birdie still has the burn mark on her thigh from a bit of fiery ceiling that fell on her before she could escape. Her father died shortly after the fire from smoke inhalation. Her mother never really recovered from the loss.
At age 13, another tragedy struck the Deste family as a robbery gone wrong ended up with the death of Birdie's mother and brother. Brody had stayed home sick that day and their mother the same. Birdie found the bodies as she came home from school earlier than Maggie. She didn't know what to do, so she went to sit by her mother and brother (whose bodies were near each other). She called the police and sat holding their hands until the authorities came and ushered her away.
Birdie and Maggie moved in with their mother's mother and spent the next three years trying to adapt to a much more conservative way of life. The girls were put into a christian after school study. Birdie hated it, but after a few physically abusive sessions with the preacher, Birdie realized how pretending to be good could save her a lot of trouble.
Birdie became fluent in the art of lying, she weaved webs of stories & lies that her sister couldn't even keep up with. It was difficult for Maggie to understand Birdie's motivation because some of the lies were so complicated that the truth would have done the same thing, but in an easier way. The two began to drift.
When their grandmother died, Birdie and Maggie were taken away from the forced Christianity and introduced to another new normal via their Aunt Florence. Things felt better and more at home there until Maggie was in a car accident her senior year of high school. She never fully recovered and instead of attending her out of state dream college, she lives with Aunt Florence unwilling to talk or move from her rocking chair. Not even Birdie can get her older sister to talk. The doctor's can't find anything wrong with her and claim it's merely stress induced trauma or something of the sort. Birdie doesn't talk about her very often.
As a freshman when her sister had her tragic accident, Birdie began looking for outlets of rebellion and love. She found out the hard way that older boys didn't always mean what they said.
Just before the end of her second year in High School, the girl found herself in the midsts of the “New” and the “Unusual”. Not only was she being forced to work through her typical Sophomore problems, everything had changed around her.
Luckily for her family, Aunt Florence had done everything she needed to persuade who would be a new ruler of an old county to take her on as his wife. Birdie continued her education and remained the lying lady that her Aunt asked her to play—a part that she loathed in this era. Alas, as she grew the girl became more and more riddled with the stigma of the fantasy sexism. Aunt Florence had done well with keeping them safe, protected & healthy—but mentally, Birdie felt isolated, depressed and less than. She wished for nothing more than her sister to help guide her through this new life.
At 18, Birdie decided she couldn’t take the stress of everything in this New Forest Providence and her Aunt and this awful life—she ran. She ran until she found a place where she wanted to stay. It was a cottage at the edge of her Aunt’s rule that housed a new aged and illegal guild of fighters both hesitant, but interested in helping to teach Birdie the skills that she would truly need.
Throughout the next six years, Birdie trained her mind and her body everyday in order to become one of the adventurers she had always been told was strictly for males. Birdie became a fighter in every sense of the word.
